This is one of the most vital roles we have at the Halton Children’s Aid Society. Once a week, the Food for Life organization provides food we then distribute to families associated with our organization and identified as being a family in need.
Volunteers sort the food into individual grocery bags and deliver it directly to the families. You can choose to do either the bagging, the delivery or both.
The time commitment is once a week—every Wednesday in Burlington and every Thursday in Milton.
Confidentiality and commitment is of the utmost importance—families rely on this service to help feed their children.
Meet Jim–a Food for Life Volunteer
Jim had a busy career with Canada Post in Human Resources. He knows all about hiring for the holiday rush. But he says you haven’t seen anything until you see what happens at the Society in December. “It’s amazing what goes on here. I didn’t understand the magnitude of it until I started volunteering.”
This place does so much. The Christmas gifts, the volunteer co‐ordinating, the dragon boat fundraising, the events—you wonder how they pull it all off when you see all the activity behind the scenes, and then it’s always so well done. Everyone is so committed.”
“On Wednesdays we start at 10:00 am when the food arrives and sort it into bags for families to receive deliveries. “I love the job. The people here are great—they’ve always been very helpful.”
