Meet Joel
Joel has spent over half his life in group homes and, at the time, it was all he knew.
“When I turned 18 and was told I had to not only find, but also furnish, my own apartment, I completely panicked. It wasn’t finding my own apartment that worried me, that part was surprisingly easy. My issues were with finding and buying everything I needed to survive on my own.”
Thanks to the Halton Children’s Aid Society and donations from the Children’s Aid Society of Halton, Joel was provided with a ‘starter kit’ for his apartment, which has all the necessities for independent living.
“Thanks to the Society and the Foundation, me and countless others can thrive today and strive for a better tomorrow.”
